Byron Quinton Carter

WELLSVILLE - Byron Quinton Carter, 88, of Wellsville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at East Liverpool City Hospital.

He was born November 2, 1928, in Wellsville, the son of the late Richard S. and Inez (Spires) Carter. In addition to his parents, Byron was preceded in death by his sister, Marcelene Gooch; and three brothers: Richard, Lewis, and Kenneth Carter.

Byron graduated from Wellsville High School in 1947 and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He had been employed as a laborer for Globe Brick Company before his retirement. Byron was an active member of Lee's Chapel AME Church where he served on the Steward Board and as a Sunday School teacher. He was an active member in many clubs including the NAACP, John Washington Masonic Lodge #92, Wellsville Area Chamber of Commerce where he served on the Board of Directors for numerous years, Wellsville Ministerial Association, and Wellsville Historical Society. Byron was also well-known throughout the area for his barbecued food, especially his famous rib sandwiches.

Survivors include one son, Quenton Carter of Wellsville; two step-daughters: Monique Manuel of Chicago, IL and Temica Lloyd of Washington DC; and one step-son, Johnathon Curington of Washington DC. Also surviving are two grandsons: Gregory Carter of New Orleans, LA and Jason Carter of Wellsville; and one great-grandson, Javan Dawson of East Liverpool.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, April 15, 2017, at the Lee's Chapel AME Church, 1325 Center Street in Wellsville, with Rev. Gregory C. Gooch officiating. The Tri-State Burial Group will accord full military honors.

Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church two hours prior to the service on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Byron's name to a charity of your choice.
