Charley Mike Stoffel

WELLSVILLE - Charley M. Stoffel, 88, of Wellsville, died Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Essex of Salem.

He was born September 20, 1924, in Monroe County, OH, the son of the late Frederick Dan and Maude Celina (Day) Stoffel.

Charley was preceded in death on September 3, 2010, by his wife, Betty J. (Crawford) Stoffel, whom he married June 10, 1946.

Charley served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater, where he was held as a Prisoner of War in Germany. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Purple Heart with two oak leave clusters. He was employed for thirty-three years as a crane operator in the ore bridge for the former Crucible Steel Mill, before retiring in 1982. He and his wife Betty also owned and operated Hillcrest Florist for thirty years. He was a member of the Wellsville Elks 1040, American Legion Post 70, VFW Post 5647, DAV, and the Wellsville Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include two sons: George Stoffel and his wife Paula of Lisbon, and Charles P. "Chuck" Stoffel of Wellsville; and two brothers: Danny Stoffel of Louisville, OH and Preston Stoffel of Canton. Also surviving are four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm Monday, May 13, 2013, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Dirk Hall of the Living Well Church officiating.

Burial will be in Yellow Creek Cemetery.
