Clyde C. "Sonny" Smith, Jr.

WELLSVILLE - Clyde C. "Sonny" Smith, Jr., 83, of Wellsville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Valley Hospice Care Center in Steubenville.

He was born November 22, 1932, in Wellsville, the son of the late Faye (Headley) and Clyde Smith, Sr.

Sonny owned and operated his own auto body shop and also taught auto body classes at the Columbiana County Career Center in Lisbon. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He always had a story or joke to tell and was a friend to all.

He is survived by his loving wife, Frances (Cavaciuti) Smith, whom he married June 20, 1992. He is also survived by five sons: Gary and Jan Smith of Virginia, Dean Smith and his companion, Debbie Wellington, of Wellsville, Clyde "Chip" and Melissa Smith of East Liverpool, Mike and Crystal Smith of Wellsville, and Dwayne Smith of East Liverpool; two step-daughters: Dawn Rosato of Long Island, NY, and Chris and Dan Howell of Hammondsville; and one step-son: Fred Rosato of Oklahoma. Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren: Jennifer and Craig Connor, Gretchen and Tommy Maloney, Dean and Leighann Smith, Lori and Kevin Wyrick, Tony and Rachel McKay, Heather Smith, Melissa Jane Smith, Nicole Smith, Kristen and Joe Capretta, Ryan Howell and his fiancée, Jess Argentine, Jordan and Cliff McElroy, Shane Howell and his companion, Shelly Dickson, Bridget Howell and her companion, Adam Newbold, Tracy Howell Avena, and Viveca Rosato; as well as twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. There are three sisters surviving: Sharon Halfhill, Gypsy Winland, and Linda and Paul Welch; three brothers: Larry "Tick" and Sandy Smith, Donald and Wilma Smith, and Daryl "Butter" and Vicky Smith; and four sisters-in-law: Patty DiCioccio, Garnet Smith, Janet Smith, and Betty Wilson.

In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by four brothers: Gary Smith, Glen Smith, Tommy Smith, and Jack Smith, all from Wellsville; two brothers-in-law: Gib Winland and Bob Halfhill; and one great-grandchild: Jordan Alexis Smith.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Wellsville First Christian Church, 831 Main Street, with Pastor Mark Blakeley officiating. A dinner will be hosted at the church following the service. Friends may gather two hours prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Sonny's name to the Wellsville First Christian Church.
