David R. Parr

WELLSVILLE - David R. Parr, 79, of Wellsville, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 9, 2016, at home following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born December 17, 1936 in Meadville, PA, the son of the late Harold and Kathryn (McNutt) Parr. In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by one son: David D. Parr; his sister: Camille Parr; and his brother: Rolland Parr.

Dave graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp for four years during which he was stationed at Paris Island. Dave's service to his country was vastly important to him, and he was a proud veteran. Following his time in the service, Dave was a member of the Wellsville Police Auxiliary before becoming a part-time police officer with the department in the early 1980s. He retired from IBEW Local 246 after working for forty years as an electrician. Dave truly enjoyed his retirement years, spending many vacations with his wife, Lynn, in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee and golfing with his buddies. He was a member of the American Legion Post 70 in Wellsville where he was a member of the Ohio state championship drill team. He was a member and past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge 1040. Dave was a member of Holy Trinity Parish where he served as an usher.

Survivors include his wife of thirty-three years, Lynn (Frontone) Parr, whom he married September 17, 1983; one son: Darrell R. Parr of East Liverpool; one grandson: Richie Parr of Pittsburgh; and one granddaughter: Katie Parr of East Liverpool. Also surviving are two nieces: Jessica Bekar and Julie Sebree and her husband, Mario, all of Nashville, TN; and one nephew: Michael Buchanan and his companion, Nicole, of Empire, OH.

The Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Church, 235 West Fifth Street, East Liverpool, OH 43920.

Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday, October 14, 2016, at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville.
