Deryl Emery "Jake" Parsons

HAMMONDSVILLE - Deryl Emery "Jake" Parsons, 88, of Hammondsville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Trinity Medical Center West, following a lengthy battle with liver disease. He was surrounded by his loving family.

He was born September 26, 1924, in Hammondsville, the son of the late Clyde Emery and the late Mary Jane (Welch) Parsons.

Jake graduated from Irondale High School in 1942. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II from 1943-1945, having seen extensive action with the 274th Armored Field Artillery in five major battles. For his efforts, he received numerous medals, including four Battle Stars and a medal from the French Government for his aid in liberating Verdun, France. He was the oldest charter member of the American Legion Post 742. Jake's post-war employment included Columbia Gas from 1950-1952, Libby's Brickyard from 1952-1958, and Titanium Metals in Toronto, where he worked from 1958 until his retirement in February of 1987. He attended Hammondsville United Methodist Church.

Jake married Eva Marie Cronin on July 16, 1950, in Hammondsville, where he had resided his entire life. In addition to his widow, he is survived by two daughters: Jane Marie Greenwood and her husband Charles of East Liverpool, and Susan Lynette Parsons of Pittsburgh, PA.; and one son: Gale Emery Parsons and his wife Debra of Hammondsville. A devoted family man, Jake was instrumental in the lives of his two grandchildren: Shauna Rene Parsons of Toronto, and Joseph Matthew Parsons and his wife Krista of Hammondsville. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, whom he adored: Jay Tyler Hanlin of Toronto, and Alivia Lynn, Amelia Marie, and Matthew Joseph Parsons of Hammondsville.

In addition to his parents, Jake was preceded in death by four sisters: Mary Baker, Garnetta Lysle, Lucille Miller, and Norma Wilson.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. No calling hours are planned. Burial will be in Hammondsville Cemetery.

Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville, was entrusted with arrangements.
