Donald Leroy Smith, Sr.

SALINEVILLE - Donald Leroy Smith, Sr., 81, of Salineville, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2020, at Salem Regional Medical Center due to complications caused by an automobile accident.

He was born June 1, 1938, in Wellsville, where he was raised, the son of the late Faye (Headley) and Clyde Smith, Sr. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by five brothers: Clyde Smith, Jr., Thomas Smith, Gary Smith, Jack Smith, and Glenn Smith.

Donald was employed as a laborer with Laborers Local Union 809 before retiring in 2002. He enjoyed fishing with his brothers, gardening, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Southern Hills Church of Christ.

Donald is survived by his wife, Wilma (Eastham) Smith, whom he married August 9, 1958. Together they raised five children in Salineville after they moved there in 1970, including three daughters: Christina Johnston and her companion, Jim Brown, of Kensington, OH, Tracy Buckley and her husband, Roger, of Salineville, and Kimberly Carman and her husband, Wayne, of Minerva, OH; and two sons: Donald Smith, Jr. and his wife, Peggy, of Salineville, and David Scott Smith and his wife, Christine, of Hanoverton, OH. Also surviving are three sisters: Gypsy Winland, Sharon Halfhill, and Linda (Paul) Welch, all of Wellsville; and two brothers: Larry "Tick" (Sandy) Smith of Wellsville and Darrell "Butter" (Vickie) Smith of Wellsville. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a celebration of Donald's life will be held at a later date.

Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Roberts Funeral Home in Wellsville is entrusted with Donald's arrangements.
