Frances H. "Fran" Hipsley

WELLSVILLE - Frances H. "Fran" Hipsley, 82, of Wellsville, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2019, at East Liverpool City Hospital.

She was born May 27, 1937, in East Liverpool, the daughter of the late Daniel and Catherine (Natale) Cataldo. In addition to her parents, Fran was preceded in death on August 14, 2018, by her husband, Benjamin H. Hipsley, Jr., whom she married May 5, 1956; one daughter, Mary Louise Hipsley; one sister, Josephine Volino; and nine brothers: John, Sam, Albert, William, Patsy, Tony, Joe, Emil, and Daniel Cataldo.

Fran was one of thirteen children. She graduated from Wellsville High School in 1954. Following graduation, Fran married Benjamin Hipsley, Jr, and had five children. She later became an entrepreneur by putting herself through cosmetology school and obtaining her license to fulfill her dream of owning her own beauty salon. Fran was the proud owner of Hipsley's Hair Styling in East Liverpool since 1972. She was still operating the shop out of her home serving her lifelong clients until the time of her death.

She dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and became known as "Nana" to everyone. Fran made all of the family holiday traditions grand and would go all-out on decorating for various holidays. She always celebrated the reason for the season of Christmas and passed down her family heritage traditions. Fran was a bold, strong, ornery, spitfire, independent woman.

Fran was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville. She was the best guidance counselor who could offer spiritual advice like no other.

Survivors include her children: Benjamin R. Hipsley of Wellsville, Penny J. Traina of Calcutta, AnnMarie "Bunny" Hipsley of Silver Lake, OH, and Victor F. Hipsley and his wife, Michelle, of Columbus, OH. She is also survived by two sisters: Mary Ciarniello and her husband, Ernie, of Poland, OH, and Rose Ulizio of Midland, PA. Also surviving are her ten grandchildren: Nicole Turturice, Rick Hipsley, Santino Hipsley, Michael Hipsley, Katherine Grafton, Alfonso Traina, Anthony Traina, Cameron Sikorski, Angelina Hipsley, and Roman Hipsley; and eight great-grandchildren: Joey Turturice, Jeorgia Turturice, Juliana Turturice, Madden Hipsley, Connor Hipsley, Sofia Frances Traina, Mia Grafton, and Adam Stigall.

The Catholic Funeral Rites will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Kopp of Holy Trinity Parish presiding.

Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville.
