Francis Morris "Sonny" Connor

CANTON - Francis Morris "Sonny" Connor, 80, of Canton, formerly of Wellsville, passed away Friday, May 13, 2016, at Aultman Hospital in Canton surrounded by his loving family. Sonny had fought a ten year battle with three different cancers.

He was born October 25, 1935, in Wellsville, the son of the late Francis Finley and Betty (Warner) Connor. In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his sister, Grace Kalaczynski.

Sonny attended Wellsville High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1953-1957. He was employed as a maintenance mechanic for Penn Power Plant in Shippingport, before retiring in 1991. He was a member and trustee at Valley Chapel in East Canton. Sonny was also a 32nd Degree Mason in the East Liverpool Masonic Lodge and a member of the Steubenville Scottish Rite. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, and he and his wife, Rebecca, spent many winters in Florida, where he especially enjoyed his hobbies and his family. They also had many pleasurable vacations with their "adopted family" in Virginia.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca (Clutter) Connor, whom he married August 3, 1990; two sons: Scott Connor of Wellsville, and Timothy Connor and his wife, Christine, of Wellsville; and three sisters: June Crawford of MD, Betty Lea Ingle of McRae, AR, and Sharon Miller of Salisbury, MD. Also surviving are three granddaughters: Mindy Connor, Brittany Adkins, and Bailey Connor; one grandson: Spencer Francis Connor; and four great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Raza Khan and all of the staff at the Cancer Center at Aultman Hospital.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Dr. Charles Burkett of Valley Chapel officiating.

Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville.
