George "Buck"Alford, Jr.

HAMMONDSVILLE – George "Buck" Alford, Jr., 73, of Hammondsville, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville.

He was born August 24, 1942, in East Liverpool, the son of the late George and Violet (Hanlon) Alford. In addition to his parents, Buck was preceded in death by one brother, David Alford.

Buck graduated from Wellsville High School in 1961, and he served in the U.S. Army. He was employed for thirty-five years hauling cars as a truck driver with the Teamsters Union. Buck was a member of Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Garnetta (Plunkett) Alford, whom he married March 6, 1965; three sons: Anthony Alford and his wife. Shelley, of Empire, Michael Alford of Austintown, and Shannon Alford and his wife, Sherrie, of New Cumberland, WV; one sister: Linda Alford of Salem; and one brother: Keith Alford of Terre Haute, IN. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Kathlynn Alford of Jewell, OH; Sean Alford of Long Beach, CA, Cody Alford of Wintersville, Justin Greathouse of New Cumberland, and Josh Greathouse of Chester.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, January 30, 2016, at the Roberts Funeral Home where the Tri-State Burial Group will accord full military honors.

Burial will follow in Hammondsville Cemetery.
