George William Bailey, Jr.

WELLSVILLE - George William Bailey, Jr., 72, of Wellsville, died Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at Sun Coast Hospice Care Center in Palm Harbor, FL.

He was born June 2, 1942, in Lisbon, the son of the late Dorothy (Saprano) and George W. Bailey, Sr. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Donnie Welch, and his mother-in-law, Opal Welch.

George graduated from David Anderson High School in Lisbon in 1960. He served in the United States Army from 1960-1964. He was employed for twenty years in the maintenance department at AEP, Cardinal Plant in Brilliant before retiring in 2011. George was a member of the Wellsville Lions Club where he had previously served as president and was a member of Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Rebecca "Becky" (Welch) Bailey, whom he married December 16, 1966; one brother: John Bailey and his wife, Barbara, of Salem; two sisters-in-law: Terri Welch of Wellsville and Tammy Welch of Lisbon; and one brother-in-law: Chuck Welch and his wife, Sheila, of Wellsville. He was known and loved as "Uncle George" by everyone, but most of all by: Sara, Eric, Tristan, and Chloe Pinkerton of Tarpon Springs, FL, Jena and Jake Smith of Charlotte, NC, Staci Welch of Clearwater, FL, Jason Welch of East Liverpool, Michelle Stoffel and Justin and Rocco Murray of Charlotte, NC, Ava and Cliff Phillips, Devin Conkle and Jaiden Welch of Boardman, Zach Welch of Wellsville, Killian and Rowan Reed of Akron, Joshua, Kimberly, Jonathen and Kerstin Aikens of Poland, OH, Victoria and David Brown of Shadyside, OH, and Eric Sr., Esther, Eric Jr., and Ethan Bailey of Salem.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Offerdahl of the church officiating.

Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded by the Tri-State Burial Group.

Friends may call from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville.
