EAST LIVERPOOL - George R. Brookes, Sr, 74, of East Liverpool, died Sunday, August 24, 2014, at home following a lengthy illness.

He was born May 28, 1940, in East Liverpool, the son of the late Wilbur and Marcella (Hargraves) Brookes.

George served in the U. S. Army from 1958 to 1964 during the Vietnam War. He was employed for forty years by Metsch Refractories in the maintenance department, before retiring in 2002.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy L. (Bishop) Brookes, whom he married May 23, 1969; one daughter: Jennifer Brookes of East Liverpool; one sister: Linda Horner and her husband Lawrence of East Liverpool; one brother: Wilbur Brookes and his wife Janet of Tucson, AZ; one daughter-in-law: Michele Clutter Brookes of Wellsville; one granddaughter: Aubrey Brookes; and one grandson: Sean Hudson II.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his son, George Brookes, Jr.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.

Roberts Funeral Home in Wellsville was entrusted with arrangements.
