Harry Glenn Jarvis

Born: July 26, 1932 in Gavers, Ohio.

Died: December 30, 2023 at age 91

In addition to his parents, Clyde and Lena McClurg Jarvis, Glenn was preceded in death by four

sisters: Louise Barcus, Margaret Saling Woods, Maxine Kelly and Evelyn Ketchum VanRoyen;

and two brothers, Wilbur and Gene Jarvis.

He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sarah Ann Schafer, and Bill Ketchum, his

nephew, who was as close as a brother.

Glenn is survived by a sister, Agnes McKenzie Ward, of East Liverpool; a daughter, Glenda

Schafer, of Highlandtown; a grandson, Joseph Schafer (Darla Forbes Schafer) and two

great-grandsons, Grant and Lucas, of Austintown; a son-in-law, Jim Schafer, of Highlandtown, and

many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Glenn lived his entire life on the family farm in Highlandtown. He was a 1950 graduate of

Wellsville High School, a 50-year member of Yellow Creek Grange No. 1795, and a member of

Highlandtown Church. Glenn was one of the original 35 members of the Highlandtown

Volunteer Fire Department, founded in July 1956.

He loved to sing. In the early 1960's, he was a member of a barbershop choir and later sang in

church choirs at Highlandtown Church and Bethel Presbyterian Church and was also a member

of the Salineville Community Choir.

In the early 1950's, he began working at H.K. Porter Company, Inc. McLain Works Refractories

Division in Wellsville, Ohio. It was during that time that he met Elaine Hammond who worked

nearby as a telephone operator for Ohio Bell. They married in 1957 and had one daughter. They

divorced in 1984.

He soon developed a love for driving trucks and operating heavy equipment. What started as a

weekend hobby quickly became a fulltime job when "Glenn Jarvis Trucking & Excavating" was

created in the late 1960's. He continuing working until a tragic accident in August of 2011 put

him in the hospital. After many months of recuperating, he was forced to retire at age 79.

Over the years, Glenn had many horses. He loved going to horse shows, trail riding and leading

parades. Later, he could be seen with a horse and buggy in many neighborhood parades with his

sister, Agnes, on the seat beside him. When the snow fell in the winter, he loved to hitch Hank

to a sleigh and give everyone sleigh rides through the fields.

Glenn was well known in the community and will be sadly missed by his many friends and

family.

A private memorial service was held on January 4, 2024, at Highlandtown Church.

Roberts Funeral Home in Wellsville was entrusted with Glenn's arrangements.
