Harry L. Podwel

WELLSVILLE - Harry L. Podwel, 91, of Wellsville, died Friday, December 12, 2014, at East Liverpool City Hospital.

He was born October 31, 1923, in East Liverpool, the son of the late Mary (Talbott) and Lloyd Tucker. Harry was preceded in death on January 19, 2011, by his wife, Elizabeth (Jewell) Podwel, whom he married January 30, 1953, and in April 1957 by his son, Brian Scott Podwel.

He graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1941. Harry served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945 during World War II, where he was awarded five Bronze Stars. He was employed for twenty-six years as a machine operator for McIntosh-Hemphill before retiring in 1986. He was a member of American Legion Post 442. Harry was protestant by faith.

Survivors include two daughters: Gretchen Conaway and her husband, Jeff, of Wellsville, and Sue Furman and her husband, Jim, of East Liverpool; and two sons: Craig Podwel and his wife, Pam, of Ashville, NC, and Barry Podwel and his wife, DJ, of Wellsville. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Joey "JJ" and Amy Furman, Eric and Traci Furman, Tiffany and Gary Helman, April Conaway, Jordan Podwel, Garrett Nelson, Lauren Podwel, Bryan and Lauren Podwel, and Dawn "Tope" and Bobby Swogger; seven great-grandchildren: Cameryn Podwel, Rylan Podwel, and Adelyn Podwel, Ally Furman, Karlee Furman, Justin Swogger, and Kayla Swogger; and three great-great-grandchildren: Caleb and Lucas Swogger, and Sophia Swogger. Harry will also be greatly missed by his pet dog, best friend, and sidekick: Tippy.

Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday, December 15, 2014, at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville. Full military honors will be accorded by the Tri-State Burial Group at 6:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Harry's name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.
