WELLSVILLE - Harvey Lawrence Newlan, 89, of Wellsville, died peacefully Monday, May 22, 2017, at home following a lengthy illness.

He was born November 30, 1927, in Beaver, PA, the son of the late Harvey and Sarah (Tice) Newlan.

Harvey served in the U. S. Navy and the U. S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict, and he retired from the U. S. Air Force. As a veteran, one of his most endearing accomplishments was graduating from Wellsville High School with the class of 2005. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 681 (32nd degree) in East Liverpool, Al Koran Shriners of Cleveland, East Liverpool Oriental Band, and Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Steubenville. He worked in the cold strip for the former Crucible Steel Mill before retiring in 1982.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Louise (Buck) Newlan, whom he married March 7, 1952; one son: Steve Newlan and his wife, Tanna, of Wellsville; one brother: Terry "Ted" Newlan of Wellsville; one granddaughter: Jessica Newlan-Di Biase of Charlotte, NC; and one grandson: Dominic Bucci of Wellsville.

In addition to his parents, Harvey was preceded in death by five sisters: Pauline, Dora, Ima Jean, Shirley, and Nancy; and three brothers: Bernard, Frank, and Charles.

The funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm Thursday at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Kenneth Maylone officiating. The Tri-State Burial Group will accord full military honors at 5:45 p.m.

Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Thursday, May 25, 2017, at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial tributes take the form of donations to the Wellsville United Methodist Church Youth Group.
