IRONDALE - James David "Jim" Crawford, 94, of Irondale, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

He was born February 13, 1931, in Saline Township, the son of the late Lewis H. and Blanche E. (Glenn) Crawford. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death on March 23, 2015, by his wife, Bernice (Baker) Crawford, whom he married March 19, 1951. He was also preceded in death by his sisters: Orpha Skinner and Norma Crawford; and his brother, Lewis Crawford.

Jim graduated from Toronto High School in 1949. In 2020, he was inducted into the Toronto Athletic Hall of Fame for his 1948 undefeated football team. He was incredibly proud of this accomplishment and would tell anyone who would listen. After high school, Jim was employed at the clay mine in Wellsville and then continued his career as a screw operator and roller at Timet until his retirement in 1994. He was a pillar of his community, having served three terms as Saline Township Trustee. He was also an active member of the Irondale Fire Department where he had the honor of serving as Chief.

Jim enjoyed the great outdoors, especially hunting, trapping, and fishing. He was an avid sports fan and could always be found supporting the youth at local sporting events, especially the Toronto Red Knights. Jim even had his own personalized chair at the Toronto High School baseball stadium. He also enjoyed going out to eat and patronized many of the local restaurants where everyone knew him by name.

Survivors include his five children: Jimmy (Gladys) Crawford II of Wellsville, Connie Brown of Wellsville, Penny Cox of Wellsville, Chuck Crawford of Irondale, and Dudley (MaryAnn) Crawford of Hollywood, FL; and two sisters: Nellie Allison of Wellsville and Joan Crawford of East Liverpool. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Crowe officiating.

Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville.
