James Edwin Porter

COLUMBUS - James Edwin Porter, 66, of Columbus, died Monday, June 30, 2014, at his daughter Courtney's home where he resided.

He was born July 20, 1947, in Wellsville, the son of the late John and Alta "Daisy" (Newlen) Porter.

Jim graduated from Wellsville High School in 1968. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He had been employed as a warehouseman for the former Crucible Steel Mill. Jim attended Worthington Christian Church in Columbus.

Survivors include two daughters: Tara Bonfils and her husband, Kevin, of Columbus, and Courtney Porter of Columbus; one son: James E. Porter II of Virginia; one sister: Joyce Moore and her husband, Jack, of Wellsville; and one brother: Robert Porter and his wife, Beth, of East Liverpool. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by five sisters: Mildred Porter, Carol Faye Porter, Gertrude Porter, Barbara Dawson, and Jean Byers; and two brothers: Willis Porter and John Porter.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm Thursday, July 3, 2014, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Kenneth Maylone officiating.

Burial will be in Toronto Union Cemetery.

Friends may call two hours prior to the service on Thursday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville.
