CHESTER, W.Va. — James A. "Grouse" Stock, 67, of Chester, formerly of Wellsville, Ohio, passed away at 7:42 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at Lifeline Hospital in Wintersville, Ohio, following a lengthy battle with congestive heart failure.

He was born July 22, 1950, the son of the late Dorman F. and Verla M. Timmons Stock. He had spent most of his life in Wellsville before moving to Chester in 2011.

He was a 1968 graduate of Wellsville High School and had attended the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University on a violin scholarship. He had also studied history at Kent State University.

He had been employed for 39 years as a mold maker at the Homer Laughlin China Co. in Newell, where he had been a member of Local No. 419 of the GPPAW.

He was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Wellsville and was a former member of the Wellsville Sons of Italy.

Jim was an avid sports fan who loved watching and cheering for the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates.

He loved fishing in Canada and often traveled to Ontario and Quebec.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sister, Dorma J. Tolson and her husband, Gary, of Wellsville; his brother, David C. Stock Sr. and his wife, Robin, of Wellsville; his niece, Jocelyn Stock of Wellsville; his nephew, David C. Stock Jr. of Wellsville; and his great niece and nephews, Heather, Eddie and Andrew, who held a very special place in his heart.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald D. Stock in 2009.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at the Roberts Funeral Home.
