Jerry F. Tipton

EAST LIVERPOOL - Jerry F. Tipton, 80, of East Liverpool, passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018, at his home after suddenly becoming ill.

He was born March 26, 1938, in Wellsville, the son of the late Earl and K Naomi (McLaughlin) Tipton. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Tipton.

Jerry graduated from Wellsville High School in 1956. He served in the United States Army from 1956-1959. He was employed for thirty-eight years as a shift supervisor of Crew 2 for Sammis Plant/First Energy where he was also a member of the Hi Stack Club. Jerry was a member of the Wellsville Eagle Aerie 772, a lifetime member of the Wellsville Elks Lodge 1040, and a member of AOPA. He was also an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy (Gitschier) Tipton, whom he married November 12, 1982; one granddaughter whom he adored, Devon Backus and her husband, Tanner, of Hawaii; three great-grandchildren who were the light of his life: Braylen Carr, and Kai and Leikan Backus; one step-daughter, Jill Reeder of Calcutta; two daughters: Jannie Tipton-Jones of Wellsville and Judy Burns of Kansas City, MO; and one son, Jim Tipton of Kansas City, MO. Also surviving are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jerry will be sadly missed by the family dog, Quincy.

The funeral service will be held at 6:30 pm Thursday, November 29, 2018, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Irv Hoover of the Wellsville First Christian Church officiating.

Friends may call from 4:00-6:30 pm on Thursday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville. The Tri-State Burial Group will accord full military honors at 4:00 pm.
