WELLSVILLE - John Edward McMahon, 85, of Wellsville, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024, at home.

He was born August 29, 1938, in Wellsville, the son of the late James William and Deloris (Lyndecker) McMahon. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death on January 27, 2022, by his wife, Carrie A. (Fitzgerald) McMahon, whom he married August 18, 1962. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister.

John graduated from Wellsville High School in 1957, and he served in the United States Navy from 1957-1967. John was a police officer with the Wellsville Police Department from 1967-1972, and he served on the Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department from 1971-1981. He was employed as a boilermaker at Quaker State from 1972-1997, and he then worked as a security officer at Homer Laughlin China Company. John had also served on the Wellsville Village Council and was an avid fan of the Wellsville Tigers football team.

Survivors include two children: Jamie McMahon and Bridget McMahon, both of Wellsville; and three brothers: Ron, Tom, and Bob McMahon. Also surviving are four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

According to John's wishes, no services will be held. Roberts Funeral Home in Wellsville is entrusted with his arrangements.
