John R. Rowley

IRONDALE - John R. Rowley, 85, of Irondale, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018, at Carriage Inn in Steubenville.

He was born November 26, 1932, in Sandyville, West Virginia, the son of the late Oscar and Rosa (Shields) Rowley. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by three sisters: Frances Endfinger, Jessie Rohall, and Irene Henthorne; three brothers: Paul, Perry, and Guilford Rowley; and one granddaughter.

John served in the United States Air Force from 1953-1957 during the Korean War. He was employed for twenty years as a construction worker for Labor Union 809 in Steubenville before retiring in 1994. He was a member of the former Irondale Ruritan Club and enjoyed the senior bowling league at Tri-State Lanes.

Survivors include his wife, Margaretta (Cope) Rowley, whom he married September 14, 1952; two daughters: Ronda Board and her husband, Frank, of Salineville, and Debbie Scott of Irondale; two sons: James Rowley and his wife, Janis, of Wellsville, and Darren Rowley and his wife, Zaida, of Wendell, NC; and one sister: Ruth Ann Hogue and her husband, Jamie, of Hope Mills, NC. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 6, 2018, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Pennington of the Lisbon Assembly of God officiating.

Burial will follow in Hammondsville Cemetery where the Tri-State Burial Group will accord full military honors.

Friends may call from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 pm on Sunday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville.
