Lawrence Walter Serafy

WELLSVILLE - Lawrence Walter Serafy, 80, of Wellsville, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2019, at East Liverpool City Hospital.

He was born February 23, 1939, in Wellsville, the son of the late Walter and Emma Alberta (Cunningham) Serafy. In addition to his parents, Lawrence was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Barnes, and his brother, Gerald Serafy.

Lawrence attended Wellsville High School and served in the United States Navy from 1959-1963. He was employed for twenty years as a welder for the former Crucible Steel Mill before retiring in 1982. Lawrence then purchased his own truck and spent the next eighteen years as a truck driver for Fillmore Freight before retiring in 2000.

Survivors include his wife, Norma (Johnson) Serafy, whom he married August 12, 1963; one daughter, Terry Joy of Cartersville, GA; and one son, Larry Serafy of Wellsville. Also surviving is one grandson, Robert Joy of Cartersville, GA.

The funeral service will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 24, 2019, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Blakeley of the Wellsville First Christian Church officiating.

Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 1:00-3:00 and 5:00-7:00 pm on Thursday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville. The Tri-State Burial Group will accord full military honors at 5:00 pm.
