Mary Alice "Cookie" Jackson

NEWPORT NEWS - Mary Alice "Cookie" Jackson, 85, of Newport News, VA, formerly of Wellsville, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at the Hampton VA Medical Center.

She was born June 17, 1932, in Wellsville, to the late Monroe Jackson and Jennie (Giles) Jackson. Cookie was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Ellen (Jackson) Farrow.

Cookie graduated from Wellsville High School in 1950, attended East Liverpool Business College, and graduated from Les Femme Beauty College in 1960. Cookie served two terms in the Air Force as a Telecommunications Operator during the Korean Conflict era. Cookie worked 30 years for the Defense General Supply Center earning the title of a Branch Chief before retiring in 1983. She began her government job in Cleveland, moved to Richmond, and finally to Newport News.

Survivors include two brothers: Richard Jackson of Gambrills, MD and Howard and Janet Jackson of Youngstown; and several nieces and nephews.

Cookie did volunteer work in Senior Centers, organizing trips and serving as a hair dresser for the members until she lost her vision.

The funeral service is at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, in the chapel at Spring Hill Cemetery, 10th Street Extension in Wellsville with Rev. Roosevelt Thompson officiating.

Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call one half hour prior to the service at the chapel.

Roberts Funeral Home in Wellsville is entrusted with Cookie's arrangements.
