Neva J. Heffner

WELLSVILLE - Neva J. Heffner, 83, of Wellsville, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian Hospital.

She was born November 20, 1933, in East Liverpool, the daughter of the late John and Vivian (Cook) McIntosh. In addition to her parents, Neva was preceded in death on June 20, 1993, by her husband, Charles "Red" Heffner, Sr., whom she married June 26, 1953. She was also preceded in death by her son, Charles "Little Red" Heffner, Jr.; her grandson, John Charles Heffner; and her sister: Rebecca Moss.

Neva graduated from Wellsville High School in 1951 and had been employed for twenty-six years as a teacher's aide for the Wellsville School District, before retiring in 1999. She retired from the Ohio Association of Public Service Employees where she served in every local office. She had been a very active member of Wellsville First Christian Church since the age of twelve. She had served as vice chairman of the board for the church, sang in the choir, and was a charter member of the Livewire Class where she also served in every office. She was active in the Christian Women's Fellowship, Ohio Christian Endeavor, and was co-founder of the Christian Support Group. In addition to being an active member of her church, Neva was also a member of the Southern Ruritans, Yellow Creek Grange, and Wellsville Arts Club. She enjoyed playing cards in various card clubs and was an avid reader and traveler.

Survivors include twin daughters: Coy Vlk-Peterson and her husband, Eric, of King George, VA, and Joy Mascher and her husband, Michael, of East Palestine; one sister: Yvonne Dotson of East Liverpool; and two brothers: Lewis McIntosh of East Liverpool and Blaine "Buck" McIntosh of Wellsville. Also surviving are four grandsons: Nicholas Vlk, Garett Peterson, Ian Mascher, and Marcus Kyle Turner; and numerous nieces and nephews. Neva is also survived by her companion and friend, Albert Carr.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the Wellsville First Christian Church, 831 Main Street, with Pastor Mark Blakeley of the church officiating.

Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the church.
