Patricia Sue Gilger (nee Yager) died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. She was 84 years old.

Born May 23, 1939 in New Martinsville, West Virginia, Patricia was the daughter of the late Lee and Minnie Yager. She graduated from Magnolia High School, class of 1957, and worked for a time as a lab technician before marrying Howard Gilger, her childhood next door neighbor. They built a beautiful life together that included lots of ball games, golf, travel and family. Together, Pat and Howard raised three daughters who were lucky to have a mother who loved them unconditionally and taught them to "look for more to love, and you'll find less to hate." Pat was a living example of how to be a good neighbor and a better friend.

A member of Highlandtown Church, she lived a life of service to others, often volunteering when there was a need. Pat loved to gather people around the table to play a game, and would often invite friends and neighbors to play. She has many dear friends from the clubs she belonged to, including a card club she enjoyed for nearly 60 years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters Melanie (Jim) Smith, Dawn (Matt Dayhoff) and Dara (Greg Shingler) Gilger; her grandchildren, Adam Smith and Emma, Evan, Jillian and Sophia Dayhoff; siblings Donna Prunty, Tom Yager and Jill Bezdek; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends she considered family.

Per her wishes, a celebration of Pat's life will be held this summer, (tentatively June 22). Celebrate her today by carrying on Pat's tradition of brightening a day by sending a card or letter to someone you love, or inviting a neighbor over for a game of cards.
