WELLSVILLE - Richard R. "Dick" Vaness, 88, of Wellsville, died Sunday, August 16, 2015, at St. Mary's Alzheimers Center.

He was born May 7, 1927, in Wellsville, the son of the late Roy and Ellen M. (Starr) Vaness.

Dick graduated from Wellsville High School and served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He worked in construction, last serving as head custodian for Wellsville Schools. He was also a self-employed carpenter and owned and operated the Watch Repair Shop in Wellsville. Dick belonged to the former Immaculate Conception Church.

He was preceded in death on April 14, 2015, by his wife, Mary G. "Boots" (Buchmann) Vaness, whom he married September 16, 1980.

Survivors include two sisters: Shirley M. Lingerfelt of Inverness, FL, and Mary Ellen Reed of Wellsville.

According to his wishes, no services were held.

Roberts Funeral Home in Wellsville was entrusted with Dick's arrangements.
