Robert Frederick Corbett

EAST LIVERPOOL - Robert Frederick "Bob" Corbett, 91, of East Liverpool, passed away quietly on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at East Liverpool City Hospital with his family by his side.

He was born January 21, 1925, in Jacksonville, FL, the son of the late Charles F. and Murl (Syrus) Corbett. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by one son: William Dale "Billy" Corbett; one sister: Edna Bosworth; and two brothers: Glen and James Corbett.

Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army in September 1943 during World War II. He was in the first and last battle from D-Day to V-Day. He received five battle stars, one bronze star, and a purple heart. He was employed as a salesman. He was a member of the American Legion Post 374 and the VFW Post 66. Bob enjoyed playing his fiddle in several blue grass bands, having entertained at the Columbus State Fair and Blue Grass Festivals. He was also an avid card player and enjoyed playing dominoes.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia E. (Wright) Corbett, whom he married May 8, 1943; three daughters: Roberta Staley and her companion, Keith Ruley, of Wellsville, Carol Stover and her husband, Jerry, of East Liverpool, and Suzanne McKinnon of Tempe, AZ; two sons: Rev. Jeffrey Corbett of Columbiana, and Galen Corbett and his wife, Mary, of East Liverpool; and one brother: Clifford Corbett of MI. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, and one step-great-great-grandchild.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, August 8, 2016, in the chapel at Columbiana County Memorial Park, 16078 Irish Ridge Road in East Liverpool, with Pastor Joseph Cilone of the United Brethren in Christ Church officiating. The Tri-State Burial Group will accord full military honors.
