HAMMONDSVILLE - Ruth Eileen Smith, 85, of Hammondsville, died Monday, November 22, 2010, at Essex of Salem.

She was born August 6, 1925, in Irondale, the daughter of the late Edward and Olive (Stewart) Jarvis.

Ruth graduated from Toronto High School in 1943. She worked at Sterling China in Wellsville. She was also a member of the Hammondsville United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death on October 20, 1982 by her husband, Berch Smith, whom she married January 3, 1951.

Survivors include one daughter: Melody Smith of Hammondsville; and one grandson: Justin Smith of Columbus.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by one son: Jay Edward Smith; and one sister: Margaret Jarvis.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Crowe of the church officiating.

Burial will follow in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
