Thomas P. Broderick

WELLSVILLE - Thomas P. Broderick, 91, of Main Street in Wellsville, died Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at Calcutta Health Care Center.

He was born February 18, 1924, in Wellsville, the son of the late Patrick W. and Ella M. (Sexton) Broderick, and he spent his entire life in the Wellsville area.

Tom was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean, whom he married June 2, 1945, as well as his special daughters, Carolyn Broderick and Colleen Brown, and his brother, Edward D. Broderick.

Tom was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church. He spent his first eight educational years as a member of the I.C. School where he also served as an altar server and choir boy. In later years, he was a member of the senior choir and the church council for many years. He attended Wellsville High School and graduated with the class of 1941. Tom was also a member of the Wellsville Historical Society, Wellsville Alumni Band, Wellsville Alumni Association, and he served in excess of thirty years on the board of the Robert Bycroft Work Shop. Tom was the oldest member of the Wellsville Council #507 Knights of Columbus where he was a past Grand Knight. Tom and his wife, Jean, were honored by being named Wellsville Legends and the Knights of Columbus Family of the Year, as well receiving the McMillan Friend of the School award.

Nearly all of his working years were spent in Toronto, OH. Tom first started in 1941 as a test boy and metallurgical assistant in the lab at Follansbee Steel. He also worked for Ohio River Steel and then held many management positions at Timet before retiring in 1987.

Survivors include two daughters: Kathleen Nelson and her husband, Ed, of Sanford, NC, and Maureen Pelley and her husband, Pete, of East Liverpool; and one son: T. Patrick Broderick and his companion, Leslie, of Wellsville. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

The Catholic Funeral Rites will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Rev. Peter Haladej of Holy Trinity Parish presiding.

Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery.
