Thomas A. "Santa" Powell

EAST LIVERPOOL - Thomas A. "Santa" Powell, 78, of East Liverpool, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018, at East Liverpool City Hospital.

He was born August 8, 1939, in Wellsville, the son of the late Clyde Powell and Helen (Westbrook) Powell Dawson. In addition to his parents, Tom was also preceded in death by his step-father, Rhallie Dawson; two sisters: Geraldine Fitch and Patricia Powell; and two half-brothers: Richard and Clyde Powell.

Tom attended East Liverpool High School and earned his GED while he was serving in the United States Army from 1956-1958. He had previously been employed as a route driver and salesman for Schwebel's Bakery and also for ten years as a salesman and supervisor for Nickles Bakery. He was most recently employed as an insurance agent for American General Life Insurance and for fifteen years as an insurance agent and supervisor for Western & Southern Life Insurance. Tom was a proud member of Boy Scout Troop 12, and he loved to portray Santa Claus every Christmas for the last thirty years. He was a member of The House of Prayer.

Survivors include his wife, Janet (Dunn) Headley Powell, whom he married February 28, 1976; two daughters: Cindy Powell Leavitte of Butler, PA and Cheryl Bryan and her husband, Ron, of Nichol, CA; three sons: Clyde Powell and his wife, Kimberly, of Temecula, CA, Christopher Powell and his wife, Lisa, of Everett, WA, and Clayton Powell of North Jackson, OH; two step-sons: Bob Headley and his wife, Robin, of Erie, PA, and Jim Headley and his wife, Leanne, of East Liverpool; and one step-daughter: Elizabeth Edenfield and her husband, Brian, of San Antonio, TX. Also surviving is one step-sister, Vicki Oesch and her husband, Larry, of Salem; one step-brother, Robert Dawson of East Liverpool; sixteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 2, 2018, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Kim Gadd of the church officiating.

Burial will follow in Yellow Creek Cemetery.
