William C. "Bill" Hogue

HAMMONDSVILLE - William C. "Bill" Hogue, 88, of Hammondsville, rejoined his wife of sixty-six years in his passing on March 12, 2015, at Medina Hospital, when he became ill while visiting family.

He was born in Hammondsville, OH on February 1, 1927, the son of the late Grace (McCarty) Hogue and John William "Bill" Hogue and the step-son of Charles D. Warden. He lived his entire life in the Hammondsville and Irondale area. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Hogue Savona, and his wife, Charlotte Williams Hogue, whom he married July 23, 1948.

Bill leaves behind his two sons: William (Mary Ann) Hogue of East Liverpool, and Mark (Lori) Hogue of Medina; his son-in-law: Frank Savona of Malvern; and his brother: Charles Douglas (Nina) Warden of Irondale. His grandchildren are Kelly (Patrick) Ziegler, Lyndsey (Casey) Cerepak, William Hogue III, Lizabeth Hogue, and Matthew Hogue, and his great-grandchildren are Payton Ziegler, Kendall Ziegler, and Saige Cerepak. He is sadly missed by both family and his many friends.

A Methodist by faith, Mr. Hogue was the Pater Familia for fifty-seven years after the death of his grandfather, James Hogue, in 1958. He served in the United States Army from April 1945 to November 1946 and took part in the post-war occupation of Japan. Assigned to the Signal Corps, he worked as a telephone operator at General MacArthur's Tokyo Headquarters. He graduated from Irondale High School in 1947. His work history included twenty-three years at the Salisbury Brickyard of the H.K. Porter Company and later as maintenance crewman at the Ohio Power (now First Energy) Sammis Plant from which he retired in 1989.

Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, nature, and wildlife along with cooking and baking. He also had a passion for history and geography with a world atlas always within easy reach. He learned amateur beekeeping from his grandfather Hogue and fishing from his grandfather McCarty. More than anything, Bill enjoyed the time he spent with family traveling extensively throughout the U.S., especially to Florida and Holden Beach, NC. Overseas travel with his wife included trips to Germany, France, England, and Italy, with his daughter, Connie, traveling with them on their last excursion. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his home along Yellow Creek in Hammondsville.

An avid sports fan, Bill served as a line judge at the Stanton/Edison Schools for more than thirty-five football seasons, rarely missing a game. He had a particular interest in watching young athletes reaching their prime and took pride in his service to the school's teams.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Mohinder Singh and his staff, as well as the former staff of Dr. Robert Beatty, who were his primary care physicians. Also many thanks to the second floor north staff at Medina Hospital who cared for him in his last days.

Arrangements are in the care of the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville, with visitation scheduled for 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm on Sunday, March 15, 2015. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday with Pastor Dan Crowe officiating. Interment will be in Hammondsville Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Irondale Methodist Church with the ladies of the church serving the meal.
